Manière Noire is a collective project of Atelier Oil and Sugar and Cimmerian, a queer couple based in Montréal, that started on the 31st of October 2016. Manière Noire was a pretext to create obscure items and accessories for a Noir Lifestyle. We are makers and designers of enamel pins, art prints, original illustrations, apparel, and home decor.
Our name comes from the french term for mezzotint, a printmaking process in which the artist produces an image by burnishing a textured copper plate, creating light areas from a solid black base. Manière also means a way of doing things, which resonated with our vision of a lifestyle brand.
